Galungan & Kuningan Celebrations
Galungan marks the beginning of the most important recurring religious ceremonies on the island of Bali. The Holy ancestors are called to return to visit and bless us on Earth, and the current inhabitants have a responsibility to be hospitable through prayers, gratitude and offerings. From the Holy ancestors who taught the holy knowledge, to our own ancestral roots from where we came from, together are honoured and remembered with food and celebration. Hence, Galungan and Kuningan days are filled with enchanting ritual and auspicious ceremonies that celebrate the victory of dharma (good) over adharma (evil). Kuningan marks the end of the season when the ancestors return.
Galungan is a time where most Balinese visit family or stay home to be with family. In the ashram on Galungan it will be very quiet as most students have journeyed to go home. Kuningan is only half the day therefore puja at the ashram will resume as usual.
