On the eve of Nyepi, New Moon, celebrations are held with large giant effigies, called Ogoh-Ogoh, paraded in the village streets accompanied by loud gamelan music. The following day, Nyepi is a silent day.\nNyepi “Day of Silence” is a Hindu celebration mainly celebrated in Bali, Indonesia. Nyepi, a public holiday, is a day of silence, fasting and meditation for the Balinese.\nOn this day, the entire island of Bali will come to a complete standstill. No shops open, no restaurants open, no transport, no cooking (no fire), no people out in the streets. Lights are turned off in the evening or limited to indoor only (curtains closed) and no scheduled incoming or outgoing flights from Ngurah Rai airport in Denpasar (DPS).
